Aviation document management specialist Web Manuals has introduced a Compliance Assistant feature for its Amelia AI platform. The company said the new function will help aircraft operators take account of regulatory updates to its Compliance Libraries platform, as part of wider interface changes giving a clearer view of changes and how they relate to users’ manuals.
According to Web Manuals chief product officer Richard Sandström, the reasoning AI-based feature allows users “to have a conversation” with regulatory databases that can span multiple regulatory bodies. “You can ask questions such as what has changed in the rules and which points are substantial,” he told AIN. “For instance, you could get guidance over where to look for changes, ask to see all the changes over the past year, or identify something really specific like an oxygen mask requirement.”
To help U.S. aircraft operators save time when preparing for FAA assessments, Web Manuals has integrated the agency’s Data Collection Tools (DCT) into its Compliance Libraries platform. Users can add DCT questions to their manuals and quickly identify any missing information and prepare supporting evidence before the assessment.
If the Compliance Assistant feature is unsure about the information requested, it will ask follow-up questions to the user. Searches will only be made in regulatory libraries relevant to each operator, and operators can specify variable considerations such as whether commercial or private flight rules apply in any given situation. The system conducts its own checks on provided answers and flags anything that falls below a set confidence threshold.
Web Manuals checks system performance every two or three months, incorporating updates based on user feedback. “Over the past year or so we have rebuilt the [Amelia] system from scratch,” Sandström said. “It was designed for connecting documents to requirements, and the new system still does that but now it is also able to read and understand requests, [so] it is now better suited for smaller organizations.”
As part of built-in safety measures, Amelia’s functions have deliberately not been fully automated, ensuring human involvement in the process. Users can create follow-up tasks to assign to themselves or other colleagues responsible for maintaining operator manuals.
Compliance Assistant works in conjunction with Web Manuals’ existing Document Search and Co-Author functions for archiving and editing regulatory records. In June, the Sweden-based company introduced a new&nbsp;<a href="https://www.ainonline.com/aviation-news/air-transport/2026-06-09/web-manuals-rolls-out-xml-document-management-tool">XML Editor feature</a> to help users working with data and records in XML format.
