The FAA is investigating a runway close call at Miami International Airport (KMIA) after an American Airlines Airbus A319 rejected its takeoff when an Embraer Phenom 300 entered the same runway without clearance. No injuries were reported, and both aircraft remained under control.&nbsp;
The incident occurred at 6 p.m. local time on Saturday. American Airlines Flight AA308, scheduled to depart for Bermuda, discontinued its takeoff roll after the flight crew observed the business jet, NetJets Flight EJA434, on the active runway.&nbsp;
“EJA434 was not under NetJets’ operational control at the time of the encounter,” NetJets told AIN, confirming that the Phenom was under the control of a third-party maintenance vendor when the incident happened.
Air traffic control advised the crew of the business jet that it had crossed an active runway; the pilot responded that they believed they had been cleared to do so. The controller later clarified that the instruction had been intended for another aircraft.
CNN reported that the two aircraft came within approximately one-third of a mile of each other and that AA308 later departed safely for Bermuda.
