A lifelong aviation enthusiast who joined&nbsp;AIN&nbsp;in 2007, Curt came to&nbsp;the publication&nbsp;from the broadcast industry where he was a national science and technology television reporter and producer. He writes on the FBO field, aviation finance, and sustainable aviation and occasionally contributes to&nbsp;AIN&nbsp;sister publication&nbsp;Business Jet Traveler. Curt was a member of the AINtv reporting staff that won the 2008 Aerospace Journalist of the Year award for Best Airshow Daily. That same year, he was a finalist for another AJOYA award. He earned an AJOYA for Best Business Aviation Submission in 2018 and was a finalist in that category in 2021. He received the National Air Transportation Association’s&nbsp; Aviation Journalist Award in 2012 and won a Pegasus Sapphire Business Aviation Award for outstanding journalism in 2021.
Before joining AIN, Curt worked with&nbsp;Consumer Reports’ television division, CRTV, and for several local television news staffs. An honors graduate of the State University of New York at Stony Brook, he earned a master’s degree in broadcast journalism from Boston University in 1995. Million Air has broken ground on another FBO terminal at Marathon International Airport in the Florida Keys. In 2022, the company <a href="https://www.ainonline.com/aviation-news/business-aviation/2022-10-18/million-air-moves-florida-keys">acquired</a> the former Marathon Jet Center, which included two separate facilities—one 3,000-sq-ft Key West-style building for business jets and a smaller one to handle light general aviation. The former is a replacement for a terminal that was destroyed by Hurricane Irma in 2017.
Million Air will build a $4 million, 5,460-sq-ft terminal with a seamless indoor-outdoor flow to encompass the spirit of island hospitality. Designed to withstand coastal wind loads and corrosive marine conditions, the facility will be constructed from exterior materials suited for the local climate. Slated for completion by the end of the year, the facility is expected to take on the business aviation traffic, while the light general aviation activity will switch to the 3,000-sq-ft terminal.
The new two-story building will feature a pilot lounge with a flight-planning area, a conference room, a refreshment bar, and crew cars, as well as a full-service outdoor restaurant and bar area, allowing guests to enjoy the Florida Keys’ weather year-round. U.S. customs clearance is available on the airfield.
In addition, plans call for more than 10,000 sq ft of added green space to reinforce the company’s vision of “creating welcoming environments that prioritize comfort, aesthetics, and a strong sense of place.”
This development follows the chain’s recent addition of a $5 million fuel farm at KMTH.
“This new facility represents our long-term commitment to Marathon and to delivering an elevated experience for every guest who arrives at KMTH,” said Million Air CEO Roger Woolsey, adding that the company’s mission has always been to go beyond fueling aircraft. “We are excited to invest in infrastructure that not only serves aviation but also enhances the local community.”
