Charles Alcock is managing editor of the AIN Media Group, having rejoined the company in 2019. He has been an aviation journalist since 1986, and previously worked for AIN from 1990 to 2017, most recently as editor-in-chief. His main focus is on covering new aviation technology and business models, as well as international news.
Having been raised in the London area, Alcock studied at the University of Manchester in the UK and earned an honors degree in Politics and Modern History. He speaks English and French, and some German.

Dassault Aviation is poised to name a successor to long-standing chairman and CEO Charles Edelstenne, who is due to retire on January 9 after more than half a century of service at the French aerospace group. A company spokesman told AIN today that an announcement of a successor will be made “in the next few days.”


According to a source at the aircraft manufacturer, the retirement, which coincides with Edelstenne’s 75th birthday, has been planned for some time and is in accordance with company statutes. Edelstenne joined Dassault in 1960 and eventually succeeded his mentor, Serge Dassault, as CEO in 2000. He has continued as chairman of the company’s information technology division, Dassault Systèmes, since 2002, having previously held this post, as well as being its CEO.


Names mentioned as possible successors by close sources reported in the French financial press have included Eric Trappier, the head of Dassault’s international division, and Loik Segalen, the company’s executive vice president for economic and social affairs.
