Matt Thurber, editor-in-chief at AIN Media Group, has been flying since 1975 and writing about aviation since 1978 and now has the best job in the world, running editorial operations for Aviation International News, Business Jet Traveler, and FutureFlight.aero. In addition to working as an A&amp;P mechanic on everything from Piper Cubs to turboprops, Matt taught flying at his father’s flight school in Plymouth, Mass., in the early 1980s, flew for an aircraft owner/pilot, and for two summer seasons hunted swordfish near the George’s Banks off the East Coast from a Piper Super Cub. An ATP certificated fixed-wing pilot and CFII and commercial helicopter pilot, Matt is type-rated in the Citation 500 and Gulfstream V/550. Cooke Aviation is planning a major renovation to its FBO at southern California’s Van Nuys Airport, including additional hangar and ramp space. General manager Tony Marlow is here at ABACE (Booth H301) highlighting the planned facility renovations and also encouraging Asia-based aircraft owners and operators to visit Castle &amp; Cooke’s eight U.S. West Coast FBOs in Hawaii, Washington and California.


Construction at Van Nuys should begin within the next two weeks and will involve tearing down part of an old hangar. The current 80,000 sq ft (7,432 sq m) of hangar and office space will expand to 125,000 sq ft (11,612 sq m) after construction is completed.


Castle &amp; Cooke will also add new ramp space with easy runway access to accommodate greater numbers of transient aircraft at the Van Nuys FBO.
