Gregory Polek has spent his entire career in aviation journalism with AIN, starting as a proofreader and assistant to then-managing editor Mary Mahoney in 1995 after serving an internship with&nbsp;New Jersey Monthly&nbsp;magazine and completing his B.A. degree in English/Writing at New Jersey’s William Paterson College. By 1997 Polek accepted a position as an associate editor, covering the regional airline beat for&nbsp;Aviation International News&nbsp;in place of retiring industry veteran Don Anderson. The assignment took Polek across North America and Europe to profile regional airlines varying in size and mission from the likes of floatplane operators Kenmore Air and Chalk’s Ocean Airways to regional jet operators such as SkyWest and American Eagle. Today, in his dual role as Air Transport Editor and International Airshow Editor, Polek writes, edits, and manages AIN’s commercial aviation content while overseeing each of the company’s daily international air show publications in Paris, Farnborough, Singapore, and Dubai. Most recently Polek has assumed oversight of daily coverage of the Helicopter Association International’s annual Heli-Expo convention.

Pinnacle Airlines said in late October that it would close the headquarters of its Eagan, Minn.-based Mesaba Airlines subsidiary toward the end of next year’s first quarter as it moves to reduce the number of its operating certificates from three to two. Pinnacle also owns Manassas, Va.-based Colgan Air. &nbsp;&nbsp;
A Pinnacle spokesman told AIN that Pinnacle has offered all the employees in Eagan jobs within the company. Some employees will move to Pinnacle’s headquarters in Memphis, while others will remain in Eagan to support a training and education center.
Pinnacle also plans to keep a pilot and maintenance base at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport.
“This is part of our transition and integration plan announced when we <a href="http://www.ainonline.com/?q=aviation-news/aviation-international-news/2010-08-02/delta-sells-mesaba-compass-subsidiaries">acquired Mesaba in July 2010</a>,” said the spokesman. “As of Saturday, October 23, thirty-five employees had accepted positions at Pinnacle, so the number of impacted employees is closer to 160 instead of 193 that some media originally reported…the window for some positions will be open until the end of the year, so that number is likely to be much lower.”&nbsp;
