A lifelong aviation enthusiast who joined&nbsp;AIN&nbsp;in 2007, Curt came to&nbsp;the publication&nbsp;from the broadcast industry where he was a national science and technology television reporter and producer. He writes on the FBO field, aviation finance, and sustainable aviation and occasionally contributes to&nbsp;AIN&nbsp;sister publication&nbsp;Business Jet Traveler. Curt was a member of the AINtv reporting staff that won the 2008 Aerospace Journalist of the Year award for Best Airshow Daily. That same year, he was a finalist for another AJOYA award. He earned an AJOYA for Best Business Aviation Submission in 2018 and was a finalist in that category in 2021. He received the National Air Transportation Association’s&nbsp; Aviation Journalist Award in 2012 and won a Pegasus Sapphire Business Aviation Award for outstanding journalism in 2021.
Before joining AIN, Curt worked with&nbsp;Consumer Reports’ television division, CRTV, and for several local television news staffs. An honors graduate of the State University of New York at Stony Brook, he earned a master’s degree in broadcast journalism from Boston University in 1995. Curt lives in New York State with his wife and two young sons.

The U.S. House of Representatives’ passage of a bill is expected to spur the growth of the sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) industry, according to NBAA. Included in <a href="https://www.congress.gov/119/bills/hr7567/BILLS-119hr7567rh.pdf">H.R.7567</a>—the Farm, Food, and National Security Act of 2026—are measures that, for the first time, will expand the existing biofuels category to include SAF derived from renewable agricultural feedstocks.
Introduced earlier this year by House Agriculture Committee Chairman Rep. Glenn Thompson (R-Pennsylvania), the overall bill aims to update U.S. agricultural policies, expand producer credits, and strengthen rural communities through means such as&nbsp;the promotion of public-private partnerships for the development, deployment, and commercialization of biofuels and sustainable aviation fuels.
The legislation identifies SAF production as a key path for rural economic development and calls on the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to identify opportunities to maximize SAF development by “leveraging the capabilities of America’s farmers, ranchers, foresters and producers to capture opportunities in the sustainable aviation fuels market,” through expanded growth and utilization of SAF feedstock crops.
NBAA president and CEO Ed Bolen recognized the work of the association’s environmental committee, which worked with legislators to envision the economic benefits such activity could provide.
“We are also grateful to see House lawmakers acknowledge not only the environmental benefits of sustainable aviation fuels, but also their potential for significant economic contributions to our country’s farmers and rural communities,” he said. “As the bill now moves to the U.S. Senate for consideration, we urge that chamber to take prompt action to advance this important legislation into law.”
