Marking the 10th anniversary of the first flight of an aircraft equipped with its seatbelt airbag, AmSafe Industries of Phoenix, is introducing its next-generation seatbelt airbag. AmSafe developed “the first and only” seatbelt airbag certified for use on commercial aircraft as a cost-effective method of 16g compliance for difficult-to-certify seat placements.”
According to AmSafe Industries president Bill Hagan, the new seatbelt airbag upgrade enhancements include a 30-percent reduction in weight, a 40-percent increase in service life, wireless onboard diagnostics (manually or through an integrated wireless system), design improvements that include a sleeker, narrower bag-belt and a lightweight, redesigned buckle.
The item will be available for delivery in the third quarter. It is self-contained and self-powered and weighs approximately three pounds. The earlier seatbag airbag has been adopted by nearly 70 airlines worldwide and 50,000 are currently in service, typically in airline first-class cabins.

Rockwell Collins Adds Emteq Lighting to Its CMS
Rockwell Collins has announced an agreement with Emteq to integrate the New Berlin, Wis.-based company’s line of LED interior lighting with its own <a href="?q=node/18423">Venue high-definition cabin management system</a>.
“The beauty of Venue is its ability to accommodate the latest technology with relative ease, which we’re proving again by integrating it with Emteq’s lighting products,” said Rockwell-Collins v-p and general manager of cabin systems Tommy Dodson.
The agreement enhances the variety of choices Venue customers now have for aftermarket cabin lighting.
